Here are a few tips I think will help you host your first/next HootSuite HootUp. I sure hope they help!

  • follow @HootUp
  • Contact your local HootSuite Ambassador using this #HootAmb Map (You can Become a HootSuite Ambassador)
  • Look for certified HootSuite users in your town.
  • Make a list of local folks that use HootSuite (I love Twitter lists for this!)
  • Reach out to folks you know who are interested in helping organizing events
  • Reach out to sponsors who may contribute food/beverage, event space, give aways
  • Pick a cause to support with your event. Need ideas? – Food drive for your local food pantry, disaster relief efforts for storm/flood victims, coats for kids, toys/clothes/suitcases for children in the foster care system (there are SO many wonderful ways to help!)
  • Pick a hashtag : i.e. #HootUpXXXX
  • Pick a location (make sure location has FREE wifi)
  • Pick a datehootsuite-logo-dashboard
  • Decide what you want to share at your HootUp.  – Ask yourself and your team “How will we help our community learn something that could help them” . . .  get a job, help them build their business by getting their team working together more effectively or establish their personal brand as an example. Don’t forget that you can use the HootSuite Slidedecks or make your very own with their online media kit.
  • Pick an event format. i.e., one presenter, panel discussion with Q & A, HootSuite Coach Skype session walk through of HootSuite PRO or Enterprise, Community discussion, HootSuite 101 (Set up and walk through for new users) Ask other #HootAmb ‘s what events were successful for them to get inspiration.
  • Set up Evenbrite for event (don’t forget to link to sponsors, volunteers and presenters)
  • Fill out the HootSuite HootUp Application
  • Have fun with your sponsors, volunteers and presenters making #HootKits for attendees at a private event shortly before your main event. This gives them a chance to get to know each other and bond.
  • Send email to event sponsors, presenters, volunteers with link to Eventbrite, tips on how to help promote event and any details/tips you want to offer them
  • Promote your event. Here are some great tips.
  • Share photos/quotes/video from event using your hashtag (i.e. #HootUpTriad) and the #HootUp hashtag.
  • Follow up with sponsors, presenters, volunteers and attendees to get feed back and make your next HootUp even better! Use Eventbrite Event Feedback and Polls

What forget on this list? Leave a comment below, I’d love to learn what make your HootUps a success!
