What *exactly do you do?

That question comes up a bit – as I don’t fit in the tiny little box other people try to put me in. We are all more than what we do for a living (and I love what I do!) but let’s face it . . . our passions make us dynamic and fuel our success in everything we do.

Here’s a run down on what I like to do ::

Art : I love art and have since I put my fingers in bright primary colors and made my own pitch black finger painting masterpiece. I still love to paint but rarely have time to these days. Since getting married in ’10 and starting Experience Farm with my husband Brandon Pierce, my focus has been on decorating our home, traveling and building our family company. I have been very lucky to support other artists over the years and have been blessed to discover a community of incredibly talented people.

Furniture : Furniture is another passion of mine that I discovered thanks to my Mother teaching me how to refinish a mahogany pineapple bed when I was 12. I consider myself a rescuer of furniture and vintage glass ware and above all a DIY nut. I am so proud of the furniture I have designed and built too! Lowes Home Improvement is my favorite store in the world next to Goodwill and Habitat Restore. One day when I grow up, I will have my own line of eco responsible furniture.

Food : I love to cook and share what I’ve made. Breakfast in bed on Sunday is my favorite meal. Stick around and you will learn that I play with my food and am a lover of all things bacon and good food in general. I am not a picky eater, even though for the most part I eat like a vegetarian. (be warned that bacon is the gateway meat) I’m not a big soda drinker, but give me a Boylan’s under a shade tree any day!

Cocktails : Many people who know me well – know that I have been working on a recipe book for years. Yes I am still working on it and can’t wait to publish it soon (on my bucket list). One of my favorite things to do is host a martini mixer with friends and have each person bring an ingredient to taste test my recipes! But if you see me out and want to buy me a cocktail . . . hands down my favorite is a very dirty Vodka/Gin (depends on my mood) martini with 3 olives. *cheers!

Handmade : Since I can remember I have always had a crafty project going. From handmade couches to pillows and crocheted blankets, scarves and hats – I love handmade items.

Travel : I consider my self lucky to have traveled as much as I did growing up and continue to explore the world every chance I get. Another thing to add to my “when I grow up” list . . . travel writer. Who in their right mind would turn down the chance to travel to exotic locations and attend fabulous parties and write about it. Not this girl!

Reading : Okay, I admit it . . . I am a bibliophile. At one time I had close to 3500 books. . . that is until I had to move them by myself. Currently, my husband and I are building our family library and are having a great time doing it.

Community : If you read my “about me” section you will see that I have my hand in a lot of community related activities and event planning as well as supporting locally owned businesses. If you live in the Triad and are interested in really helping build our community – let me know. There are plenty of opportunities where you could make a difference.

Fashion : Let’s face it. . . I’m a girl and I love to dress like one. But get to know me and you will also discover that my bib overalls is my favorite ‘DIY warrior’ uniform. If there is a chance to dig, paint, stain, fix or build – I am there!

Social Media : I do not claim to be an expert at anything except my own opinion. Over the years social media has become a daily part of my life and business. I love to inspire people who see social media as pointless and something they should hire someone else to do, if they do it at all, to do for themselves. It *is social media after all and no one knows your brand better than you do. I want to teach you (your staff) how to – I don’t want do it for you.

Do you write reviews of products?

My thoughts are my own. If I positively endorse a product or place it’s because I like it . . . I will always tell you when I write a post if I have been given the ‘widget’ to write about it.

I have received lot’s of requests for me to review ‘widgets’ . . . and for quite some time I have declined these offers . . . that is until recently.

So if you really want to send me something for free to have me review it on my blog – have at it. . . but I warn you that I have to remain honest in my review and share my personal opinion.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

This was something a friend gave me years ago. . . I look at this every day.

I can’t describe the joy this little fella has b I can’t describe the joy this little fella has brought to our lives. 😍

We sadly lost our sweet Charlie back in March to chronic kidney disease. We were heartbroken that our four legged friend of nearly 12 years finally crossed the rainbow bridge.

Months later we had the opportunity to rescue Max. His mother had died and he needed a home...and we needed some hope for the future.

Max is growing fast and his boundless energy and sweet snuggles have brought some much needed joy to our lives.

He’s a #GermanShepherd / #TerrierMix and is not only fast but wicked smart.

Even on the toughest day he makes it brighter. ❤️

Sipping @cafedumonde coffee out of my antique #NoritakeChina and #HandSewing some #AntiqueLace from @thebrandonpirece’s grandmother’s stash to mend a velvet cape is my #MindfulnessMeditation today.

I am looking to add more #MindfulMoments to my 2021. Though I don’t have the complete set to my antique @noritakechina coffee cups - they bring me such joy every time I use them. (and I have no clue what the pattern is! help?!)

#ThriftStoreFinds like this, that contribute to my #MindfulnessMeditation, are giving me hope for what the #NewYear can offer. ❤️

I’m close to finishing this amazing book. If you have suffered #trauma in your life I highly recommend #thebodykeepsthescore. It is helping me come to terms with my own trauma in so many ways. ❤️
Breakfast yesterday was #ShrimpAndGrits heaven! Breakfast yesterday was #ShrimpAndGrits heaven!

@TheBrandonPierce grilled #sriracha marinated shrimp and I brewed @cafedumonde #chickorycoffee and cooked @quaker old fashioned #grits with a pat or three of unsalted butter and @betterthanbouillon vegetable base.

Most of the time we eat this dish out of a salad bowl. 🤤 The grits are slathered in butter, @traderjoes sriracha sauce is drizzled over piled high shrimp, and grated black pepper #ToscanoCheese blankets the shrimp like snow.

It’s one of my absolute favorite breakfast/brunch dishes!

I tried something a little different with the plating - seeing as we had already eaten most of our #GrillDay portion of shrimp. 😬

I am still working on our #ChristmasBrunch menu... and I learned that this is a perfect portion size that helps us save room for ALL of our favorite holiday foods.

What’s your favorite holiday dish?

I’ve enjoyed #HandSewing these @orange_bettie mini stockings to surprise some of our elderly relatives with treats on Christmas Day.

If you love #sewing this is a great project to not only help you give a #handmade gift but it also makes quick work of the fabric you may already have stashed away.

Here’s a link to the pattern: http://orangebettie.com/2018/11/27/mini-christmas-stocking-in-3-sizes-free-sewing-pattern/

#HomaroCantu once said “When we think of classic #HomaroCantu once said “When we think of classic #AmericanDesserts, we tend to imagine apple pie and ice cream. However, the most classic American desert of all might be the #ChocolateChipCookie.”

I couldn’t agree more! I’ve been baking #ChocolateChipCookies to share for the last week now and it has become a much needed calming holiday ritual.

I’ve upped the #ChocolateChips in my recipe to 3 cups and my chief taste tester @thebrandonpierce tells me it’s perfection. I hope y’all feel the same way. ❤️
