I know y’all are going to get sick of me bitching about inbox spam but DAMN. It’s like the spam dam broke and all the smarmy sales pitches are flooding my inboxes. Every. Last. One.
LinkedIn, Email, Facebook, Twitter, and yes, even my post office box. . . gah. Just. Fucking. Stop.
Two things.
1. This type of spam, to me, is a spray and pray approach that uses the “better to ask forgiveness than permission” mindset.
This is NOT connecting with me, the recipient, in any meaningful way, especially if I didn’t opt in. Not cool.
There are better ways get folks to support your brand than projectile vomiting your message. Here’s one. Here’s another one. Don’t forget this one.
2. It isn’t okay to sign me up for your sales pitch just because we met once or twice years ago, talked on the phone once or the fact that you happened to see a post I made to my friends letting them know where they can send notes, cards and care packages.
Even worse? When you buy my personal email from a company and send me your smarmy sales pitch/vote for me crap. Even folks who are from the political party I had voted for have turned me off cold with this spray and pray approach to my inbox.
Just because you have access to a person’s email/social/mailing address, doesn’t mean that it’s okay to sign them up for your newsletter, send them a sales pitch, ask them to vote for you… regardless of how awesome you think it is.
I’m curious…
